Studio 5.5
"We believe in a collective and comprehensive approach to design to renew the world and brighten up our daily life with common sense".
Studio 5.5 was founded in August 2003 by Vincent Baranger, Jean-Sébastien Blanc, Anthony Lebossé, and Claire Renard. The four designers met while studying at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art (ENSAAMA) in Paris. Today, they live and work in Paris and collaborate with several major brands.
"We are convinced that design is the key to defining a new vision of the world and the practices of tomorrow.
Too often described as a stylistic trend, design is in fact a formidable tool for creating value and allowing us to develop our economy and enhance our lives, because it has the ability to give meaning to the objects and environments it rethinks. A vision that establishes design as a strategic approach capable of acting without limitations to introduce new ways of thinking. That's why we practice a comprehensive approach to design that breaks down the barriers and where no field of action is off-limits: product design, graphic space design, interface design, service design and experimental design…. always favoring substance over form to brighten up our daily life with common sense. »
Studio 5.5 & Oberflex
Studio 5.5 has worked with Oberflex since 2006 in an ongoing mutual consultation relationship. They have namely designed solutions for Obersound acoustic panels and a new range of "Tectoniques 5-5” ceilings, took charge of the artistic direction of the associated catalogs and continue to work with the company in developing new cross-disciplinary solutions for the various product ranges.
This long-term working relationship fosters an ongoing exchange on fundamental issues relating to innovation within the company. Among other things, the beginning of this relationship led to the creation of the "Obersound 5.5 designers" perforated panel collection. The Obersound 5.5 designers collection won two awards in 2007 and 2008, and the collaboration was rewarded once again in 2012 with the Gold Medal for Design at the Batimat Trade Show.
In 2011, Oberflex and Studio 5.5 developed TECTONIQUE by 5-5, an integral solution born out of a desire to make our ceilings move, to give them shape and make them stand out thanks to a new installation system. It can be summed up as: "Everything moves in depth, everything changes on the surface". The result is a series of models designed as moving surfaces that tear and rip each other open, cut each other and connect to form micro landscapes that remind us that our earth is well and alive.
• Gold Medal for Design - BATIMAT
• Innovation Grand Prix for awarded by the INPI
• HD design award
In 2018, 10 years after designing a first collection of acoustic perforations, the Studio 5.5 went further by creating a collection that architects can truly appropriate, and rounded off the Obersound acoustic offering with the new "Actions 5-5” collection, which features a series of graphic propositions that allow architects and designers to design their own perforation patterns.
